Aftercare & Advice

A gel has been injected into your skin or lips to help improve shape, proportion, shadows, structure or wrinkles. The results can be immediate, improve over time, and last from 6 to 24 months and vary significantly from person to person.

 Review

Follow-up appointments are complimentary and best done at 2-4 weeks post treatment if required. Further treatment is not performed at this time.

What is Normal?

Due to anaesthetic in the gel, you may feel some numbness or tingling immediately after the treatment and have some moderate swelling, redness, bruising and tenderness over the treated areas. Some people experience aching or discomfort in the area which subsides in 48-72 hours. Mild, non-painful swelling can last up to two weeks in some cases. Bruising can happen and, although more obvious the next day, usually subsides within a week or so. In rare cases bruising can linger for weeks. Small lumps can occasionally be felt after some treatments, this can be normal, leave them alone. If in the lip you can massage after day 3. If unsure, book a review appointment.

Protect results and reduce side effects

For 48 hrs avoid UV exposure and heat (i.e sauna, steam, hot showers, strenuous exercise) these activities can increase risk of infection and discomfort.

Control swelling with cold compress if required, avoid ice as this can cause injury. Antihistamines such as Telfast can also help with swelling.

Don’t touch the area for at least 24 hours, applying makeup the next day is fine.

Avoid facial massages or skin treatments including waxing, threading, peels, needling etc for 2 weeks after.

Small lumps in the lips can be massaged but not during the first three days.

Use paracetamol for pain relief if required, avoid Ibuprofen as this can increase bruising.

“Hirudoid” or “bruise-eze” can help with bruising.

Avoid alcohol for 48 hrs post treatment.

when to contact rewa aesthetics?

Serious complications are very rare but it is vital you seek a review if you experience the following.

Swelling, puffiness or lumpiness that does not fade with a massage.

The filler changes texture, becomes hard, nodular or very lumpy, especially if there is redness after 48 hours.

Pain or discomfort at or near the injection sites which gets worse over time.

Discolouration of skin at or around the injection sites (i.e pale white, blueish).

In very rare cases, an urgent reversal or other medical intervention may be required immediately. If I am unreachable and you are concerned, please attend ED but continue to make contact with Rewa Aesthetics.

 Anti-Wrinkle Injections

(Botulinum toxin typeA)

Aftercare & Advice

A medication known as a muscle relaxer has been injected into your skin/ muscles. The results can be seen as early as 2 or 3 days and will continue to settle in over a period of up to 2 weeks. The results can last up to 3-5months but are totally dependent on dosing appropriately and very significantly from person to person for a wide variety of reasons.

Review

Review/Follow up appointments are complementary and best done no earlier than 2 weeks and no later than 4 weeks after the injections. Dose adjustments/ additional units can be administered at this time if appropriate

but will incur costs.

What is Normal?

Due to the tiny needle pokes, you may experience redness, tenderness & swelling at the site of injections (can appear like small mosquito bites) which usually resolve in a matter of minutes to a couple of hours max.

With any injectable treatment there is a risk of bruising, I cannot guarantee that you will not bruise. Reports of moderate bruising have occurred, but not often.

Mild to moderate headache can occur but usually resolves quickly.

“Heaviness” can be felt through the forehead/ eyebrow area and typically resolves in a few weeks. This is more common for the first few treatments and often does not happen in ongoing treatments.

Protect results and reduce side effects

For 48 hrs after treatment, avoid UV exposure and heat (i.e sauna, steam, hot showers, strenuous exercise) these activities can increase metabolism and the risk of infection and discomfort.

Don’t touch the area for the rest of the day, applying makeup the next day is fine.

Don’t lay down for at least 4 hours.

Avoid facial massages or skin treatments including waxing, peels, and needling of the area treated for 2 weeks.

Use paracetamol for pain relief/headache if required, avoid Ibuprofen as this can increase bruising. “hirudoid” or “bruise-eze” creams can help with bruising.

Avoid alcohol for 48 hrs post treatment.
