Bruxism/TMJ Pain
Bruxism (Teeth Grinding and Clenching)
Bruxism (pronounced BRUK-siz-um) is a condition characterized by excessive teeth grinding or clenching, often occurring unconsciously. It may happen during the day (awake bruxism) or at night during sleep (sleep bruxism). While mild cases may not require intervention, more frequent or severe bruxism can lead to complications such as jaw discomfort, tension headaches, tooth damage, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.
Treatment Options
At our clinic, we offer a highly effective treatment using neuromodulators (the same product used in wrinkle reduction) to relax the overactive masseter muscles—the jaw muscles responsible for clenching. By softening the tension in these muscles, we can significantly reduce the pain and pressure associated with bruxism without compromising essential jaw function like chewing.
Because the masseter is a strong and relatively large muscle, a higher dose of neuromodulator is typically required. Once the appropriate dosage is established, clients often experience relief for approximately 4 to 6 months. For ongoing protection of the teeth, a custom dental splint or mouthguard from your dentist may also be recommended.
Jawline Slimming Benefits
In addition to therapeutic relief, this treatment can also be used for facial contouring. Relaxing overactive or bulky masseter muscles can lead to a more tapered, refined jawline—often referred to as "facial slimming." Visible results may appear within 2 to 4 weeks, with optimal outcomes typically achieved through consistent treatments.
