7 Things to Do Before Your Non-surgical Cosmetic treatments Appointment.
For Educational Purposes only.
Non-surgical cosmetic treatments include treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, biostimulators, microsclerotherapy and many other cosmetic treatments that involve needles or devices and are popular non-surgical procedures for facial rejuvenation and enhancement. While these treatments are generally safe and effective, proper preparation is essential to minimize risks and achieve optimal results. This article outlines seven important steps to take before your appointment to help ensure a smooth experience.
1. Research Your Injector and Clinic.
Before booking your appointment, thoroughly research the credentials of your chosen practitioner and the clinic. Select a Registered Nurse or Doctor with extensive experience in cosmetic injections. Reading reviews, checking certifications, and having a consultation prior to going ahead with any treatment can provide additional reassurance about the quality and safety standards that the provider upholds.
2. Avoid Blood-Thinning Agents
About a week before your appointment, it is advisable to avoid medications and supplements that may increase the risk of bruising or bleeding if possible. Please do not stop taking any prescribed medications without speaking to your specialist prior. You can still have treatments while on blood thinners you just have to accept your risk of bleeding and bruising is higher. Examples include Aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), vitamin E, fish oil, and certain herbal supplements. Communicate any prescribed medications to your injector to ensure safety.
3. Steer Clear of Alcohol
Alcohol can also contribute to bruising and swelling following cosmetic injections. To reduce this risk, refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Stay hydrated with water, as it supports tissue health and healing.
4. Prepare Your Skin
Taking care of your skin before your procedure promotes better results. On the day of your appointment, arrive with a clean face free of makeup, creams, or lotions. This minimizes the risk of infection and ensures the injector can properly assess your natural skin tone and texture. We will however, clean your skin thoroughly prior to injections.
It’s also worth mentioning here that a good skincare regime will help enhance your inject results. Treatments such as facials, peels, needling and a great product range all complement inject and are highly encouraged.
5. Inform Your Provider of Medical History
Accurately and honestly communicating your full medical history is crucial for your safety. Please inform your practitioner of any allergies, past reactions to injections, medical conditions, or ongoing treatments. Details about previous cosmetic procedures, cold sores, or autoimmune conditions may affect your eligibility for certain injectables or require pre-treatment precautions.
6. Avoid other treatments in the same area
You need to make sure the area being treated is fully healed and not irritated from other treatments. For example abrasive treatments like needling, peels, laser, waxing etc should not be done for at least 2 weeks prior to your inject appointment. This is for a few reasons but predominantly to infections control and to ensure the area heals well without complications. For this reason too, you should wait for 2 weeks after your inject appointment to have the other treatments.
7. Plan Your Schedule Accordingly
Swelling, redness, and bruising are common temporary side effects after cosmetic injections. To accommodate possible downtime, avoid scheduling your appointment right before important events or social obligations. Planning gives your body ample time to recover and for the results to settle. At Rewa Aesthetics we advise at least 4 weeks prior to an event. For very important events, such as your own wedding, we would advise a bespoke treatment plan beginning even up to a year prior in some cases.
Proper preparation plays a crucial role in the safety and effectiveness of cosmetic injection treatments. Taking these seven steps sets the foundation for a positive, confidence-boosting result from your cosmetic injection appointment.
